AkzoNobel’s Polymer Chemistry (PC) site at Rotterdam in the Netherlands produces metal alkyls used primarily as initiators and co-catalysts in the production of polymers. The main applications are in polyolefin production (polyethylene and polypropylene). We also sell high purity metal organics to the electronics industry.

Within this context, your mission in this role is to assure on-time and in-full supply to customers for the Rotterdam PC site, against the lowest cost within operating working capital guidelines. You are part of the Rotterdam site as well as the Global Supply Chain (GSC) organization responsible for supply chain planning and logistics.

Site Supply Chain Manager

The role and its responsibilities
This is a high profile role in which you manage a department that comprises production planning, transportation (including import and export operations), fleet management. You are part of the Plant Management Team.

Your core task is to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of products and services, while meeting the expectations of customers and in compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements. 

Central to this process is to ensure that site logistics operations are carried out safely according to legal and internal requirements. This includes safe product handling and loading of, trucks, containers, etc. Thus you work with local site management to comply with local requirements. 

Further, you ensure that inventories on site and in transit remain within agreed targets, and you propose annual stock targets to business management for approval. You are also responsible for preparation of the production plan, call-off of raw materials, and site S&OP processes.

In addition you are responsible for direct shipping, receiving and warehousing functions, the objective being to meet sales requirements while directing personnel in the safe handling of materials. You also ensure that goods movements in SAP correspond with reality and prepare a monthly report with standard KPIs.

At all times you take the initiative to improve operations and implement changes as part of our non-stop quest for continuous improvement. This requires you to function as the primary contact for response and resolution of Logistics related opportunities for improvement.

As the responsible manager you conduct training to site employees on current transportation procedures including packaging/labelling. You also ensure that employees receive a yearly review (P&D dialog), and as the first line supervisor for local Supply Chain personnel in Rotterdam, you organize replacements in case of the absence of personnel.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject area;
  • 1-5 years of experience in a logistics function, with the ambition to manage a small team;
  • Practical knowledge of SAP and MS office tools;
  • Knowledge of Customs- and entrepot regulations is an advantage;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including a good command of written and spoken English and Dutch.
